Facial fillers
What are facial fillers?
Facial fillers, also called "dermal fillers", are hyaluronic acids that are injected into the skin to smooth wrinkles. These products can reduce signs of aging and rewind the clock.
Facial fillers can also be used for facial contouring, such as accentuating cheekbone structure, creating a fuller, more defined chin, improving the definition and straightness of a strong jaw line. Fillers can be injected into the lips to provide a more pleasing countour and/or fullness. Injection of a facial filler is generally an outpatient procedure that's done with numbing medication.
A variety of fillers are used for specific areas of the face to give you the optimal results with little to zero down-time.
The procedure takes up to an hour. You might have mild discomfort, bruising and swelling for up to a week. After the swelling goes down, you might need a touch-up injection for best results. How long the effect lasts depends on the type of wrinkle and filler, among other factors.
Cheek fillers can last up to two years, whereas softer lip and "marionette line" fillers can last up to eight months.
Facial fillers, or soft tissue fillers, generally aren't used for people who have suppressed immune systems or who take blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants).
